Car importation

The temporary importation procedure is allowed to individuals visiting Greece and intends to remain temporarily in Greece. After a time, limit provided by the custom office depending on the case, then re-exported abroad are necessary.

The duration of stay in the temporary admission regime is set from 4(four) to six (6) months, continuous or not, every twelve months.

There are some exceptions, where individuals may import a vehicle for private use for longer than six months, without paying import duties and taxes.

• Students in further education
• Individuals on a fixed term contract with the Greek state
• Teaching staff on a fixed term contract with higher education institutes
• Diplomatic and Consular staff and their employees

Vehicles, upon entering Greece, must have

1. Official license plates of normal or temporary series of the country that has issued their license and
2. A car registration document issued by the country in which the car is registered and insured.

They should also be able to prove when they brought the vehicle into Greece. The vehicle may only be used by the owner and their spouse or children.
